Secondhand smoke is a real danger for people. I mean, obviously it is a problem for people with respiratory ailments, but a recent Live Science article states that people exposed to secondhand smoke in social settings and work places have a 25% greater risk of cancer.
Here in Indianapolis, the state government is once again engaged in the battle over banning smoking in all public spaces. I heard on the radio the other day of a group considering banning cigarette smoking in cars. (How could they enforce that?)
I hadn't realized that some people believe that by running an air conditioner the risk was reduced. The Live Science article debunked that - it is a myth. It would remove the visible smoke, but the carcinogenic and toxic chemicals remain.
The SunSentinel in Florida reports of one condo owner suing another over the secondhand smoke that invades one unit from another - and she won!
If secondhand smoke is a problem for you, one appliance that can help is an air purifier. The EPA suggests air cleaners with HEPA filters are the best choice.
AirFlow Technology offers one of the best air purifiers on the market: the Blueair HEPA Silent Air Purifier. It actually removes odors as well as 99.97% of the airborne particulates sized 0.1 microns or larger.
You can protect all the lungs in your family from some of the smoke and other toxins in the environment.

Circulate the cleaner air at home by installing an AirFlow Breeze booster fan. Not only does it keep the air moving, it improves the temperature by drawing warmed air from the ducts. That means the furnace won't be running as often and that saves energy and money!
